Penny

Appendix, Live With Penny
I realized she wasn't on the blog. I stopped blogging before I acquired her. Derp! Penny Aka Shez Bigtime Kool is a 16.2 appendix ex-race horse, she raced in Louisiana on the QH track, shes a 2010 model. After my last injury (thanks a lot Jezebel) I finally resigned myself that I needed something safer. Circe being difficult to keep sound, I decided 6 weeks after being taken to the hospital in an ambulance that I would get this really sweet, big read mare named Penny. Of course my injury turned out to me more serious then originally thought and I will be dealing with the lingering pain for yanno the rest of my life but it I jumped in early and bought the pony. I didn't get right back…

Recheck surprise

Barn tales, Injury, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1824" align="alignleft" width="300"] First turn out in a week[/caption] It's been a full week so it was time for Jez's recheck. Dr Engle came out since he was the vet on call when we had our injury. Hes stuck with us for this injury! The plan was to unwrap her, cut the dead skin flap and put her back into regular turn out and work. Best laid plans.. cuz when he took the bandages off Jez had other plans. She was reattaching the skin flap that should have died off and growing skin. That wasn't supposed to happen because it was a downward facing flap. My Jezebel is a good little healer!! So new plan, bandage her up and wait another week. If shes not to crazy she can…

Finding the routine

Barn tales, OTTB
The girls have been home for a little over a week and all has been well. They seem to be settling in, i even saw Miss Jez taking a snooze in the sun in the field while The Circinator stood guard! Thats a very good sign they are feeling comfortable. Jezebels nerves are calming a bit and shes not as wild eyed as she was the first few days. Which makes me very happy. I haven't asked too much of them just letting them settle into their new routine. This is the only time its been just the 2 of them, so separation anxiety is always a concern. Both have spent some time in the barn on the cross ties. Circe went for a walk across the neighbors driveway. I…

Bringing the girls home

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
I brought my horses home. At first I was only going to bring Circe home as she was once again having training issues and feet issue. Poor Circe cant catch a break. Eventually after much thought I decided to bring both of the girls home. I wanted to keep Jez in training to help her realize her upper level potential but not at the expense of my partnership with her growing. I think the best way to forge our bond is to have her home as well.  They came home a few days ago. Loaded and unloaded easy and have been settling in. My better half and I spent 6 weeks gutting, cleaning out, leveling and matting the barn. I also had a paddock built, changed the fence line between…

Jump Jive And Wail

Barn tales, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1749" align="alignleft" width="200"] Standing on the trailer! Hanging out![/caption] Jezebels first show was a great day. She loaded easy, she stood on the trailer for part of the day, she tied at the trailer for the rest. She ground tied by the end of the day with Kaitlyn working with her and only screamed out for her pony friend ( who was also competing) for 3/4 of the day. She really wants to be a show pony and was excited to be there and though she was pretty interested in all the happenings she didn't lose her mind and really enjoyed herself out on her first show adventure She did a great dressage test with a score of 31.9 and jumped clear on the show jumping round. She took…

Spring time

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel
[caption id="attachment_1745" align="alignleft" width="225"] View out my new window[/caption] Got married, bought a farm. No big whoop... okay really huge whoop. My better half and i tied the knot a a few weeks ago and then 2 days after the wedding we closed on the farm. Its been exciting and stressful all rolled into one. Moved into the farm a few days ago and i'm spending time putting my new gorgeous house all together. 8.5 aces, 3 stall barn 2 fenced pastures but i'm not moving the ponies. They are going to stay at the eventing barn where they are flourishing. My fields are being hayed this season and my share of the hay is going to be put up with the ponies so not only do i not have…

Family Ties

[caption id="attachment_1738" align="alignleft" width="300"] Point Given makes great babies[/caption] Jezebels half brother is going to Rolex. Which I think is pretty cool. His name is Nonsensical. His rider/owner  Emilee Libby and though I wont be able to watch much of Rolex this year (more on that another time), I'll be secretly rooting for him. It has to be as sorta secret rooting because my farm has its own rider at Rolex this year with 3 entries. I think she'll kick ass. She usually does and the entire farm will be rooting for her. As they/we well should when you have one of your own at Rolex! I keep telling people Jez has amazing potential (when shes not F'in injured) and now a half brother is riding in the top event…

Winters Break

Barn tales
As i'm sure its obvious to anyone paying attention by now, i'm taking a blogging break. I'm taking a reading blogs break too though there are 2-3 i'm still keeping my eye on (i'm looking at you The Owls Approve. Happy to see Archie's improvement!) I was getting burnt out saying the same things over and over and over and over. I found writing about the days horse activities were stale and if I was getting bored writing I can only imagine that it was boring to read as well. Couple that with its winter nothings happening but cold, snow and bad footing. Add to that volatile mix a couple of broken ponies and who had anything interesting to say. Too often I read so much filler and if i'm…

PRP two week check

Barn tales, Injury, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
Jez had her two week check after her PRP treatment. The results are great!  Shes healing really nice and my vets is really happy with how her progress is going. Shes gotta stay inside for another two weeks until the next check which she isn't thrilled about but she  the stalls at my barn are stall suites (double in size) so its better then being stuck in a tiny box. Plus... drugs help. Circe is turned out with Rep now and the two redheads are getting long well. Sometimes they are in love and want to make red-headed babies and other times they are bickering like Lucy and Ricky. Other then that... winter can suck it.
