[caption id="attachment_1207" align="alignleft" width="300"] Purrty![/caption] Jezebels meds have arrived! They have been sitting in customs since April 7th and finally got here.  I've been checking my international tracking number every day like i have OCD. There is light at the end of the Jezebel tunnel. Meds you ask? I decided to go ahead and treat her for gastric ulcers as well as the hind gut. She was palpating for the gastric and with the move and everything else i thought it best to just treat her and then start her training over... from scratch.  She will be getting Omeprazole (aka blue pop rocks) and since its way way way cheaper to order direct outside of the US of A thats what i did. Takes a while but 175 bucks versus…

I never saw her smile

Barn tales
[caption id="attachment_1200" align="alignleft" width="300"] The woman who taught me to ride horses[/caption] This isn't really a Viva Carlos magical blog hop as in who inspires you. But I was inspired to write this after reading her blog. Mrs Bobbi Williams. The women who taught me to ride horses... for real. I was a tiny kid, 7 years old and I had done my fair share of pony rides. I wanted real lessons and I got them. From Mrs Williams. A weathered, hardened old women who owned the only local barn there was in my area of Los Angeles. She was a scary women, she was tough, she never smiled, she barked orders, she yelled really loud. She was also my only option for lessons, so I took them for years…

Barn cats

Barn tales, Rant
[caption id="attachment_1193" align="alignleft" width="300"] Flossie- The best kinda barn cat![/caption] Who would have thought that barn cats could be a contentious issue. They are. I've been in a lot of barns and barn cats are necessary. They help to keep your barn pest free. Barns have rats, mice, snakes, birds. Barn cats help to reduce that. Barn cats are truly working animals. They have jobs, important jobs. In exchange for their work you provide them with proper medical care, a place to live and an occasional scratch. In the winter months you give them some supplemental food and maybe a heated water bowl depending on your climate. Barn cats shouldn't be completely feral as you should be able to pick them up or at least get them in a carrier…

Indian love call

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Training
Just to give an idea of the scope and scale of the new ginormous ring. http://youtu.be/OiZWJUB5o4o Circe started off really good. Calm, relaxed ready to work when she walked across the street, into the ring and even on the lunge. That was until Jezebel started to call to her from across the street. Took Jez about 10-15 minutes to realize Circe was gone and then lost her mind. Eventually the calling back and forth came to a stop. Jez lost interest and Circe did some really nice trot work. Then we worked on the mounting block which she really didn't want to stand next to but eventually did. It was a successful training session but Circe did have her mare moments. Made me really happy i have Michelle on my…

No rest for the wicked

Barn tales, Life with Circe
[caption id="attachment_1175" align="alignleft" width="279"] busy busy busy[/caption] Sundays tend to be a really busy day. Hardly a day off at all. Typically its ...Up early, drive to feed ponies, do barn chores, eat lunch/brunch, my better half has his riding lesson, drive to ponies to do more horse things/feeding/turnout/washing/chores, grocery shopping then i get to go home and make dinner before all the good Sunday cable shows are on. I'm usually pretty exhausted by the end of the day on Sunday. Today was no exception to the theres a lot of shit to get done on Sunday rule. [caption id="attachment_1176" align="alignright" width="300"] Dexter Wins![/caption] Besides there being a lot to do there was a horse show across the street today in the big ring and one of the girls from…

The big ring

Barn tales, Life with Circe, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1156" align="alignleft" width="264"] Hello![/caption] Circe's first day in the ring. I was nervous of course i was. Its a big day. Circe would have to cross a big street, a ditch, a stream and be in a ring that is huge much bigger then anything shes experienced at least with me before. Plus available for general use in a public park. So theres a whole lot going on. Thats a lot for one day. I also had to separate her and Jezebel to get it done. Which was making me fret because last time Jezebel lots her horsey mind in the process.  This kind of thing just crystallizes why I have Michelle on my team. Its not something i wanted to attempt to do alone. I'm lucky to have…

[caption id="attachment_1143" align="alignleft" width="300"] Grass![/caption] A lot has been going on as well as a lot of nothing. I've been letting the girls get settled in and not asking too much of them besides learning their new routine. My morning feed person started and thats been great! Going back and forth to the barn twice a day is tough. Nothing that I'm doing anything too hard just the time spent on the road back and forth was making me exhausted. So now Monday though Friday I only have to do the afternoon chores. Both girls have been behaving in the mornings, it always makes me happy when they get good report cards. [caption id="attachment_1144" align="alignright" width="300"] New herd[/caption] Yesterday we introduced Jez and Circe to the big field and their…

Separation anxiety

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel
[caption id="attachment_1132" align="alignleft" width="300"] At the gate waiting on noms[/caption] The girls are settling in the new barn. I'm at the barn twice a day right now. My morning feeding and turn out person doesn't start until next week and though this barn is closer to the house making the trek twice a day can be rough. In other words I'm tired as all get out. Both mares are still in raging heat, in fact all three mares are (Sabrina too). I think that means its spring finally so i'm keeping them in the smaller turn out until everyones horsey hormones calm down no point making it harder then it has to be. Once they are all out of heat my new barn-mate and I will pick a time to…

The big move

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1122" align="alignleft" width="300"] Circe, Jezebel and Jax[/caption] It was moving day. The day started out with heading down to the new barn to finish up installing buckets, bed stalls and just get everything ready for the girls. My better half was really awesome making sure i was calm as even though i was excited moving is always stressful. We got everything done pretty fast then headed over the the soon to be old barn to pack out saddles and horses. The girls were muddy (even though they had sheets on) so i did a really half assed job washing their legs and tails. Cuz thats how i roll. While the girls munched on hay and dried off we got everything ready. Loaded M's truck up with a couple bales…

It’s getting closer

Barn tales
[caption id="attachment_1114" align="alignleft" width="225"] Move me out of this mud![/caption] With only a few days left until i move the girls i'm starting to get excited. My better half and I went to the new barn to start setting some stuff up. My commercial shelves (24 inches deep baby!) Circe's stall needed to be cleaned and all her hooks needed to be put up. Jezebel's stall wont be vacated until the end of the day on the day before i move her. We will go out early  on moving day to get her stuff ready. My new Barn mate was there and she and i worked out some logistics of the move and she will strip down the stall shes leaving (shes moving over one) so we can get in…
