[caption id="attachment_1348" align="alignleft" width="200"] Walking around[/caption] It was both horses first day working with Michelle at the new place. The new trainer was going to be there as well so her and Michelle could get on the same page and all that jazz. I was both nervous and excited. We moved in last Sat i gave the girls Sunday off and Monday i started to get them used to the new place. Taking them for walks around the property bridle paths, getting them into the wash stall and used to their new cross ties. Everything is going really well. They are settled into the routine and their stall suites. Those stalls are freaking huge! Michelle arrived and we started with Jezebel and went down to the indoor arena. One other…

The girls

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
Jez's second time over at the ring went well. She seemed happy to be working and eagerly walked over all the jumps that were left set up in the ring. She also listened on the lunge and all though she was interested in looking around she was paying attention and not too distracted. Circe also did well under saddle, walked over jumps and did some good trot work. With out losing her mind. I call that a win.  I took a lot of pictures. All in a days work

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1265" align="alignleft" width="225"] Down the driveway[/caption] Jezebel went across the street! She did rather good. She was calm though very lookie-lou ish  and she crossed the street with no issues at all. Into the woods she went, on the little trail and over to the ditch and the creek. Jez doesn't like ditches or water for that matter. She has jumped both with me on her in the past rather then just walk across or down them. Michelle was leading her and though she stopped at the ditch she didn't balk at it. She looked around snorted a little then decided it was okay to walk down the ditch incline. She thought about jumping the tiny creek but decided walking though it was ok after a couple minutes. Score…

The new phone book is here

[caption id="attachment_1207" align="alignleft" width="300"] Purrty![/caption] Jezebels meds have arrived! They have been sitting in customs since April 7th and finally got here.  I've been checking my international tracking number every day like i have OCD. There is light at the end of the Jezebel tunnel. Meds you ask? I decided to go ahead and treat her for gastric ulcers as well as the hind gut. She was palpating for the gastric and with the move and everything else i thought it best to just treat her and then start her training over... from scratch.  She will be getting Omeprazole (aka blue pop rocks) and since its way way way cheaper to order direct outside of the US of A thats what i did. Takes a while but 175 bucks versus…

Ground work day

Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB, Training
[caption id="attachment_918" align="alignleft" width="225"] Have you met my horse "spooks-a-lot" ?[/caption] It was ground work day and by that i mean lunging. I'm still a little sore so i didn't want to ride and well riding Jezebel is on the back burner for right now aways. When i went to pull the girls from the field all of the horses were on the cow side of the field. They share the field with two beef cattle (Suzy and Jenny) there are gates separating the two areas but they are open 24/7 and they all mingle. The cows have their own run in but not today, today they horses had taken it over. All 9 of them were on the cow side invading the cows space. As i walked up i…

Whos horse is this?

[caption id="attachment_256" align="alignleft" width="180" caption="The girls"][/caption] The rain rot is getting better and it doesn't hurt to touch her in her ichy spots so I started to work her again. It's Africa hot these days so "working" my horse consists of 20 minutes of lunging and yet another attempt to get my girl comfortable in the was stall (which is super scary it appears) I get my girl all ready with her cavason and lunge line, gloves on and we go into the indoor ring for some up down transitions. To my utter delight she does everything I ask. Walk, trot, halt, trot, walk, trot, halt, walk. I try to mix it up and she gets it. Shes always been shaky on  "walk" confusing it with "halt" but on this…

Its hot!

Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_213" align="alignleft" width="225" caption="No, I will not pose for photos..is that a carrot!? "][/caption] This east coast weather thing is crazy. I come from southern California I'm used to hot, I can handle hot. I am however having trouble with this humidity thing. Egads this isn't hot, this is torture! It's hot enough that the horses are in during the day and out at night now. My filly has her fan so I'm hoping that helps to keep her cool. Our 20 minute lunge routine has been cut in half because its too damn hot to work her hard. I'm not sure how I'm going to get her in shape with only 10 minutes a day of serious work. Sometimes its hard for me to believe she actually was…

Walk Trot Trot Walk Repeat

Life with Jezebel, OTTB, Training
[caption id="attachment_186" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Pretty filly"][/caption] Ground work, ground work , ground work, that's my new theme. Since I have no saddle at the moment I'm focusing on lunging my filly. I've taken to lunging her for 20 minutes a day trying to get her into a routine. I bring her in from the field, groom her, put on her splint boots and caveson and we do 10 minutes in each direction walk to trot, trot to walk, and back again. Our circles are looking less and less like D's and more and more like circles, which I'm pretty pleased about. She is picking up the voice commands but doesn't have them entirely yet. Her trot is often calm and collected which makes me happy, when shes in a groove…
