Christmas was lovely. I spent Xmas Eve in the city at my favorite D.C. old school Italian restaurant, Filomena. They outlandishly decorate for every holiday which i love and the food is solid. I know southern Italian food because well I’m southern Italian (Calabria) It reminds me of my Italian grandmothers basement. Not my actual Italian grandma but the one I always wished I had. My better half and I ate (a lot) drank (a lot) and were generally merry (a lot). We passed out at home super early after the long cab ride back to Maryland. Ha! As we discussed the next day, its really never a good idea to order that second bottle of wine but of course we did.
The next day the plan was that I would make dinner at home for just the two of us. We both wanted something low key, no family this year… maybe next we’ll do that whole travel and visit thing. We drove on down to the barn to see the pretty girls and to give them their Xmas candy canes. We headed down a little latter to see them in the afternoon after spending the day not doing too much of anything. The barn was empty expect for the guys who were getting ready for the evening feeding. The girls were warm and happy and in their stalls, both were being snuggly and very cute. Both loved their candy canes. Now Jezebel loves crinkling packages of candy goodness but i didn’t know if Circe would be as excited about the crinkle and mint combo. I should have known someone taught her about peppermints at some point down at the track. She loved them and got super animated asking for more! Shes really coming out of her shell. I tried to get a self portrait of me and the girls but they wouldn’t both be in the picture at one. Silly ponies. Jezebel made sure to lick my face before we left and her horsey breath was minty fresh! (yes she licked my face.. yanno like a dog) They were feed their dinner and we were on our way home to rib eye roast, mashed potatoes and rioja. I couldn’t let Xmas go by without going to see them, the red delicious and golden delicious apples of my eye.
Happy Holidays!
It is so great to hear that you and your girl(s!) are doing so well. That happy exhaustion is a wonderful feeling. Here’s to an even better 2014!
