My two girls are opposites. Though both are fun and beautiful they are very different. Jez likes to throw her shoulder out, Circe throws it in. Circe runs away from me in the field (new fun habit) Jezebel comes running to me when i whistle for her. When ones good the other is bad, when one is calm the other is wild. They are night and day, ying and yang Kate and Bianca at the same time. Its hilarious and it keeps me entertained.
A friend and i decided to take my two girls out on the trail, together. Tina tacked up Jezebel in her full on dressage gear and she looked amazing. Tina has a OTTB of her own who is a handful in her own right. So we decided she would ride Jez who hadn’t been out on the trail yet since moving to the new farm and i would get up on Circe who had been out but not into the woods. Jez was a rock-star, ears perked forward, happy to be out, she didnt spook once at the alpacas right by the fences on the neighbors farm. solid as a rock. Circe, not so much. Head tossing, nervous, prancie. The calm one was being the wild one! We went out along the fence line and up the hill where you couldn’t see our farm and then on to the woods. Jez has been in woods before but not these woods, Circe I have no idea where shes been. We didn’t stay long in the woods, but we made it in and both horses were doing pretty good with it. On the way home Circe as again nervous and jig joggy. She’s been in a bit of a snit for a few days. The other day on the lunge my normally compliant girl just wanted to run and run and run. Might be the weather were having a bit of a heat wave for winter out here.. yanno 65 degrees (heat wave.. ha!) So we took them both into the ring and rode around for a bit, Jez was great for Tina who trotted her around and even got her into a canter and was having a blast on my happy willing mare. Circe was much better in the ring not tossing her head so much but i think she needs a lot more trail miles. I’m going to work on that with her. More trails!
When we were done Tina and I Tacked up. She was riding her OTTB, Wasabi and i tacked up my farm owners new trail horse a little dun quarter horse named Diva. Shes got her on a trial basis and she needs to be exposed to things to see how she is and if she really would make a good trail horse for beginners or more timid riders so I’ve volunteered to help her out by putting some miles on her and seeing what she can do. This was the first time she was gonna go out on the trail. Tina, Mary (who owns Willa) and i went up to the neighbors indoor and Diva was rock solid a little nervous but you really couldn’t ask for more for her first time out. we encountered and indoor, mud, dogs, a tractor, scary branches. Not a bad start.
When i was done my back was pretty much killing me. Three horses to ride has made my back revolt a touch. Thats what Advil was made for! Today its raining so i have a day off riding to give my back a break. I will however head on down with treats for my babies. Cuz a day with out treats is like a day with out sunshine or so the ponies keep telling me.
