Jump Jive And Wail

Barn tales, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1749" align="alignleft" width="200"] Standing on the trailer! Hanging out![/caption] Jezebels first show was a great day. She loaded easy, she stood on the trailer for part of the day, she tied at the trailer for the rest. She ground tied by the end of the day with Kaitlyn working with her and only screamed out for her pony friend ( who was also competing) for 3/4 of the day. She really wants to be a show pony and was excited to be there and though she was pretty interested in all the happenings she didn't lose her mind and really enjoyed herself out on her first show adventure She did a great dressage test with a score of 31.9 and jumped clear on the show jumping round. She took…

Circe’s first show

Life with Circe, OTTB, Training
[caption id="attachment_1474" align="alignleft" width="300"] Jump 2, scary blue blocks![/caption] A short hack away from my barn is Covered Bridge Farm. A really nice private barn that has recently put up a nice ring with lights and everything. They have been putting on some casual schooling jumper shows and Sammy thought she'd take Circe to her first show as one was coming up. Awesome! The better half got off work early to watch (evening show) and i brought my camera, of course i did. The ring was really nice. Good footing, lights for night time riding, and a 2 story observation room! The ring was divided in two (cuz its huge) they had a course set up on one half and two warm up jumps on the opposite side. It looked…

Moon gets miles

Off Farm, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1418" align="alignleft" width="200"] Just chillin' pre-class[/caption] It was that time again, The Maryland Open Horse Show. They do these nice low key schooling shows about once a month and i've been shooting them.  They are held at Schooley Mill horse park which is the ring i used when i boarded the girls across the street. The only thing i miss about that place is the ring. My horses however don't miss a thing about it, they hated the ring. Too over whelming for my sensitive OTTB mares. This time up it was Michelle's turn to take her horse Moon and put some show miles on him. Shes taken him before but the last time he was rather jumpy and nervous. This time however he was great. She keeps him…

Totally Thoroughbred horse show

Off Farm, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1398" align="alignleft" width="200"] First place in hand geldings[/caption] It was going to be hot out but i was determined to go watch the Totally Thoroughbred horse show which is in its 3rd year and held at Plimlico Racetrack. Hundreds of OTTB's in classes from lead-line to jumpers held at a race track. What could go wrong? Heh. First off this is a big show with lots of entries, so many that they have to split the classes and they are still huge. Novice hunters over fences at 2'6" went on for 2 hours at least just to get though all the horses entered. Lots of really great looking OTTBs in all stages of retirement from the horses in their teens who have been in new careers for over 10…

The Maryland Open horse show

Barn tales, Off Farm
I went to the Maryland Open horse show this weekend. I didn't enter any horses cuz .. yanno crazy. I did watch my trainer ride her horse in a few classes and take home some ribbons. Its a casual little schooling show hunter jumper style and they will be doing these once a month though i don't know if i'll go next time to watch. This seems to be a fairly tight knit little group and had my fill of listening to the stage mothers and the coaches trying to sound important whenever the stage mothers were in ear shot. This is mostly a kids show and there are very few adults competing. Mostly the adults are there for the green horse class getting their horses experience and putting miles…

Let The Games Begin

Barn tales, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_303" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Red=Kicker Pink=Awesome"][/caption] The horse farm where my pretty pony lives is a boarders only barn. This means that there are no school horses, lessons don't have the right away and every one has equal access to the facilities. Most people are pleasure riders, with a few eventers, a few judge trail riders and a couple of show jumpers thrown in for good measure. It's a pretty good group of laid back friendly people. My farm puts on a games day once in a while. Which is basically a judged obstacle course. It was open to the whole barn and about 15 of us decided to participate. It was to take place in the our door arena (weather permitting) and there were to be 20 obstacles to…

Tag-A-Long

Life with Jezebel, Off Farm, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_295" align="alignleft" width="225" caption="Yum, Grass"][/caption] The opportunity came up to take my girl off farm. A new girl at my barn is a show rider. By girl I mean shes 12. She;s my new buddy at the barn, we hang out, compare our taste in bright pink tack and talk horses and school. She reminds me of my sister who I miss as they are almost exactly the same age. She's a talented hunter/jumper with an adorable 14.2 black pony named Beauty. She goes to shows about once a month and her mother who is at the barn with her every afternoon offered to let us tag along to a show so Jezebel could gain some experience going off farm. My girl being an ex racer trailered I'm sure…
