The big ring

Barn tales, Life with Circe, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1156" align="alignleft" width="264"] Hello![/caption] Circe's first day in the ring. I was nervous of course i was. Its a big day. Circe would have to cross a big street, a ditch, a stream and be in a ring that is huge much bigger then anything shes experienced at least with me before. Plus available for general use in a public park. So theres a whole lot going on. Thats a lot for one day. I also had to separate her and Jezebel to get it done. Which was making me fret because last time Jezebel lots her horsey mind in the process.  This kind of thing just crystallizes why I have Michelle on my team. Its not something i wanted to attempt to do alone. I'm lucky to have…

Busy busy busy

[caption id="attachment_1143" align="alignleft" width="300"] Grass![/caption] A lot has been going on as well as a lot of nothing. I've been letting the girls get settled in and not asking too much of them besides learning their new routine. My morning feed person started and thats been great! Going back and forth to the barn twice a day is tough. Nothing that I'm doing anything too hard just the time spent on the road back and forth was making me exhausted. So now Monday though Friday I only have to do the afternoon chores. Both girls have been behaving in the mornings, it always makes me happy when they get good report cards. [caption id="attachment_1144" align="alignright" width="300"] New herd[/caption] Yesterday we introduced Jez and Circe to the big field and their…

Separation anxiety

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel
[caption id="attachment_1132" align="alignleft" width="300"] At the gate waiting on noms[/caption] The girls are settling in the new barn. I'm at the barn twice a day right now. My morning feeding and turn out person doesn't start until next week and though this barn is closer to the house making the trek twice a day can be rough. In other words I'm tired as all get out. Both mares are still in raging heat, in fact all three mares are (Sabrina too). I think that means its spring finally so i'm keeping them in the smaller turn out until everyones horsey hormones calm down no point making it harder then it has to be. Once they are all out of heat my new barn-mate and I will pick a time to…

The big move

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1122" align="alignleft" width="300"] Circe, Jezebel and Jax[/caption] It was moving day. The day started out with heading down to the new barn to finish up installing buckets, bed stalls and just get everything ready for the girls. My better half was really awesome making sure i was calm as even though i was excited moving is always stressful. We got everything done pretty fast then headed over the the soon to be old barn to pack out saddles and horses. The girls were muddy (even though they had sheets on) so i did a really half assed job washing their legs and tails. Cuz thats how i roll. While the girls munched on hay and dried off we got everything ready. Loaded M's truck up with a couple bales…

Blog Hop: Whats In Your Bucket/Smartpak?

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
Thanks to L from Viva Carlos for the Magical Blog Hop, Whats in Your Bucket addition. Like i needed a reason to blah blah about what i feed the ponies! I feel better now that i have one though. I tend not to go too crazy with the horsey supplements compared to some i suppose but i do a fair amount of them but everything has a purpose. A reason. A goal. First up Jezebel. Since Jezebel has recently been diagnosed with hind gut ulcers shes on all kinds of fun stuff to combat that. For 6 weeks she will be eating 300 bucks worth of supplements in addition to her regular ones. Good times! Hind Gut Ulcers: Egusin SLH: twice a day Kombat boots: twice a day Mag Restore:…

Almost like spring

Barn tales
[caption id="attachment_1076" align="alignleft" width="292"] Good Morning ponies![/caption] I had to meet the vet early in the morning. So i was up before the sun. Just routine stuff like the remainder of their spring shots and micro chipping. There was a SNAFU on the chips but that will be corrected in the next couple of days. I'm getting them chipped before they move into the new place. I read all the horror stories about stolen or missing horses and one of the big things is positive identification of your animal. Photos are not proof positive. A tattoo number on your coggins can be helpful but not all law enforcement agencies will go with that if who ever has your horse tries to claim its their horse. Microchips however are solid proof.…

Kites rise highest against the wind

Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1057" align="alignleft" width="300"] Jez loves selfies![/caption] The wind was crazy, gusts up to 30 mph other then that it was a beautiful day. Just a tease though as snow is coming again tomorrow. I pretty much want to stab old man winter in the eye with a rusty spike. I took Circe out to ride and that was a disaster. Too much wind. After one giant spook i decided to lunge her instead of ride her. Something in one corner of the ring had her in a tizzy. No matter what i did it was a no go corner. When i walked her over there to take a look she did airs above the ground. When i tried to get her to walk by they mystery scary spot she…

In flux

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel
[caption id="attachment_1048" align="alignleft" width="300"] Imma bite your foot![/caption] I've been riding Circe a bit as Jez is off because of her hind gut ulcers. Circe's been a good girl and even though were just hacking around and not seriously working shes doing a good job listening to me and not trying to evade contact too much. Its been fun the few days of weather warm enough to ride. I bought her a new girth with sheepskin that matches my saddle and i think she really liked it. Jezebel is on her supplements to re-balance her hind gut and hopefully get rid of those ulcers. I bought the 300 bucks worth of stuff and made up my own zip lock packets for her to be fed two times a day. I…

Paradigm shift

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB, Vet
Its been a rough week. Weather, sucks, blah blah blah. Its not just the weather though. I've been stressing out about the baby Bo and all things horse. Waking up at 4am fretting and worrying. Yeah, thats going over well in my house </sarcasm.  In an attempt to try to get all my horsey ducks in a row. My trainer gave me the name of the chiropractor (actually a vet, chiropractor, acupuncturist, horse bio-mechanic guy) she uses, he sounded pretty good. When I researched him up I saw he has a lot good feedback from people I respect. I watched a video of him working on a horse and I thought he might be a good fit for us. I called expecting to get his service and leave a message,…

Attack plan: Step one

Life with Jezebel, OTTB, Vet
[caption id="attachment_971" align="alignleft" width="225"] Derp[/caption] I have a multi pronged attack plan to figure out/deal with Jezebels acting out issues. Vet, Chiro, Saddle fitter, training. Yesterday I had the vet out. The plan was to give Jez the once over and see if there were any physical issues that could be the cause of her, kicking out, bucking, rearing and all around bad attitude when working. It was the first time the new vet was going to evaluate her. We went over her history with the right hind and what issues she  currently having so that Dr. L could get the full story. Then we went to the lunge. The ring was an icy, slushy, snowy mess but i was determined to get her out there on the lunge. Which…
