Not again?

Barn tales
[caption id="attachment_1335" align="alignleft" width="300"] aerial view[/caption] The rumors are true i am moving the horses, tomorrow. But you just moved them, you say! Yes, thats true i did just move them. Its only been two months and i am moving them again. Its a very long story and i will be writing more about all the trial and tribulations in future blog posts after i've had a little time to settle me and the girls into the new place and had a little time to reflect on the last two crazy months. The main reasons for the move are as follows • My horses need more training • I want an indoor • Crazy people suck and life's too short Let me start with my horses need more training: The…

New camera

Barn tales, Off Farm
The new camera arrived. Since my trusty 7 year old Canon EOS died on me last week out of the blue and when i needed it, i had to get a new camera. I settled on the Canon t3i so that all my Canon glass would fit and so that my learning curve wouldn't be gigantic like if i had decided to put myself in hawk for a Mamiya or something. It functions similarly to my old camera so it was an easy adjustment for the most part but its got lots of bells and whistled my 7 year old Canon didn't. Like a HUGE fancy LCD screen and its auto focus is super fast on the recoil. I was just playing around ... but i got some fun shots.…

The Maryland Open horse show

Barn tales, Off Farm
I went to the Maryland Open horse show this weekend. I didn't enter any horses cuz .. yanno crazy. I did watch my trainer ride her horse in a few classes and take home some ribbons. Its a casual little schooling show hunter jumper style and they will be doing these once a month though i don't know if i'll go next time to watch. This seems to be a fairly tight knit little group and had my fill of listening to the stage mothers and the coaches trying to sound important whenever the stage mothers were in ear shot. This is mostly a kids show and there are very few adults competing. Mostly the adults are there for the green horse class getting their horses experience and putting miles…

The girls

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
Jez's second time over at the ring went well. She seemed happy to be working and eagerly walked over all the jumps that were left set up in the ring. She also listened on the lunge and all though she was interested in looking around she was paying attention and not too distracted. Circe also did well under saddle, walked over jumps and did some good trot work. With out losing her mind. I call that a win.  I took a lot of pictures. All in a days work

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1265" align="alignleft" width="225"] Down the driveway[/caption] Jezebel went across the street! She did rather good. She was calm though very lookie-lou ish  and she crossed the street with no issues at all. Into the woods she went, on the little trail and over to the ditch and the creek. Jez doesn't like ditches or water for that matter. She has jumped both with me on her in the past rather then just walk across or down them. Michelle was leading her and though she stopped at the ditch she didn't balk at it. She looked around snorted a little then decided it was okay to walk down the ditch incline. She thought about jumping the tiny creek but decided walking though it was ok after a couple minutes. Score…

Slow going

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel
[caption id="attachment_1259" align="alignleft" width="225"] She seems sane here[/caption] I didn't anticipate it going so slow. Moving the girls has caused us a few set backs as i expected and a few curve balls i didn't expect. Getting Circe across the street and over to the ring has gone just dandy. Getting Circe to work and not lose her mind across the street in the ring has not gone dandy. Getting Circe back home across the street has been real hit and miss. Basically Circe has been challenging the entire first month in the new place. With being in heat... a lot and her natural sensitivity to everything always it makes things difficult. I start to lose my cool and that in turn makes the whole thing a giant mess. She's…

Raindrops

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel, OTTB
[caption id="attachment_1243" align="alignleft" width="300"] bucket heads before the storm[/caption] It's raining and its going to rain for days. Stupid. I was planning on washing and re-waterproofing my blankets and sheets this week. Yeah thats not happening how can i dry them in the sun with yanno no actual sun. Instead i will trot my happy ass back and forth to the barn every 4 hours so the girls have some turnout and don't get to drenched and i can keep an eye on them. This is a downside of self care thats a 30 min drive from your house. Last night when i brought the girls in because of the rain i noticed they were both extra mellow and though they ate their dinner neither was too interested in the…

Chip chip hooray!

Barn tales, Life with Circe, Life with Jezebel
[caption id="attachment_1231" align="alignleft" width="225"] Gettin' chipped[/caption] It was something I wanted to do before I moved but it didn't work out. My vet needed to get a new reader and it was going to have to be done after the big move. Yes, i'm talking about micro-chipping my horses. As animal owners we regularly chip our dogs and cats, its kinda a common practice but with horses not so much. It really should be for a few reasons but the most important is positive identification. If your horse is lost or stolen a microchip will almost always work as proof positive who the owner is. Nothing works better. Not a tattoo, registration papers or 100 photos of you smooching your horses face, nothing. A chip however can not be altered…

Trail ride adventures: The Willa edition

Barn tales, Off Farm
It was a beautiful day, the perfect day for riding. I however have one horse with ulcers and the other AKA spooks-a-lot is not yet conditioned to her new ring so were still just doing ground work together for a bit. So after i visited with my girls and did my barn chores i headed down to my old barn to visit with M and Peanut. [caption id="attachment_1216" align="alignleft" width="225"] In the woods![/caption] It feels a little funny diving up the long driveway of the barn i used to board at but i have no regrets making the move on to greener pastures. I noticed that the property was put up for sale in the beginning of April because i check horse property sales like i have OCD so I…
